To survive Medusa, turn away from her ordinary stone gaze, avoid the tail on the lower platforms, and hide behind the fallen boulder for the separate arena-wide beam. Turning away counters the normal cone-shaped gaze; it does not replace cover during the full-screen attack.
Medusa guards one of the early keys needed to reach the Catacombs. Her defeat also fills the Prophetess card. This guide focuses on the encounter and immediate result; exact HP, resistances, and a guaranteed fastest kill are not established.
Recognize Medusa's arena

Medusa has a giant serpent body, several snake heads, and a gaze associated with petrification. The arena gives Rose platforms and movement anchors rather than a single uninterrupted floor. Those features matter because different attacks make different levels unsafe.
Treat her movement to the opposite side as a cue to reposition, not as permission to keep striking empty space. Follow her across when the route is safe so your next attack reaches the boss.
Keep a useful ranged attack equipped
Holy Cross is a practical offensive choice because Medusa presents a large target. It gives Rose a way to continue dealing damage while repositioning instead of remaining in contact with the boss through every animation.
Ground-based fire is less useful for this encounter because Medusa is not standing on Rose's platform in the same way as a normal ground enemy. Prioritize attacks that actually reach her body. The important check is whether your chosen attack connects, rather than whether it was effective against the previous boss.
Use quick weapon attacks during clear openings, then leave time to move. Trying to finish a long combo while Medusa starts another arena-wide attack turns a successful damage window into a poor trade.
Turn away from the ordinary stone gaze
Medusa's normal gaze projects energy in a cone in front of her. Face away from her to avoid being turned to stone, then turn back when the attack has passed. Keep this separate from the arena-wide beam: that attack needs a physical obstacle between Rose and Medusa.
Hide behind the boulder during the arena-wide beam
When Medusa recoils into a tantrum, prepare for a large boulder to fall onto a lower platform. Move behind it before the beam fills the arena.
- Recognize the backward preparation and stop your attack.
- Locate the boulder on the lower platform opposite Medusa.
- Move behind it before the beam fills the room.
- Stay protected until the attack finishes, then return to a useful attacking level.
When Medusa is on the left, look to the right-hand lower platform; when she moves to the right, look left. The cover position changes with her side. Do not assume a spot that protected you earlier remains correct after she relocates.
Avoid the tail and summoned heads
Outside the arena-wide beam sequence, spending too long on the bottom platforms exposes Rose to Medusa's tail. Use the upper platforms as your usual working space, returning below when the boulder is needed.
Later in the battle, Medusa Heads add moving threats. Keep tracking them while watching the main boss's preparation. They complicate the route between platforms; they do not remove the need to get behind cover for the arena-wide beam.
Medusa can also strike an upper platform repeatedly with her snakes. Move to the opposite platform when she commits to that barrage, and use your ranged attack if you have a clear line. Remaining on the threatened platform to finish another melee hit is unnecessary.

Use a repeatable rhythm
| Situation | Safer response |
|---|---|
| Medusa stays within reach | Use a short weapon sequence and Holy Cross |
| Medusa changes sides | Move across without ignoring the smaller heads |
| Tail threatens the lower area | Return to the upper platforms |
| Ordinary cone-shaped stone gaze | Face away until it passes |
| Tantrum followed by an arena-wide beam | Take cover behind the opposite lower boulder |
| Snakes batter your upper platform | Transfer to the other side |
The central decision is whether the next threat requires height, lateral movement, or cover. Defaulting to the same jump for every move misses that distinction.
Take the key and check the new card
After victory, Medusa is absorbed into the Prophetess card and Rose obtains one of the early guardian keys. The next progression objective is the gate leading toward the Catacombs.
Do not confuse that key with a Relic location or a full inventory of Arcana rewards. The available dialogue establishes the card and progression result, but it does not supply a complete stat sheet for the ability. You can continue the main route without needing an invented weakness table or a specific level target for this fight.
