To beat Carmilla, break the two skull shields circling her before attacking her directly. Her blood curse places an eight-hit counter above Rose: blood attacks reduce it, and reaching zero triggers a killing grab. Avoiding those attacks matters even when Rose still has health remaining.
Carmilla is a vampire waiting inside Dracula's Castle. This guide explains the shield-and-curse mechanic and the changing blood patterns. Exact damage values, elemental weaknesses, and an optimal loadout are not confirmed.
Read the number above Rose

Carmilla starts the fight by placing an unavoidable blood curse on Rose. The number begins at eight and falls whenever a blood attack connects. This makes the fight feel timed, but the immediate limit is the number of qualifying hits rather than a countdown in seconds.
Watch the number separately from your health bar. Healing ordinary damage is not a reason to accept another blood attack, and this guide does not claim that a potion restores the counter.
The useful priority is therefore to avoid the next blood pattern first, break the shields when an opening appears, and deal damage once the protection is gone. Trying to out-heal the mechanic misses the condition that actually ends the attempt.
Break both skull shields
Two skull shields rotate around Carmilla and prevent direct damage from reaching her. Attack these shields before judging whether your weapon is ineffective against the boss.
- Stay ready to move around the incoming blood attacks.
- Strike the rotating skulls during a safe opening.
- Continue until both shields have broken.
- Use the resulting vulnerability to attack Carmilla herself.
If your attacks appear to make no progress, check that the shields are actually gone. Changing to an unverified elemental weapon is less useful than answering the protection mechanic in front of you.
Jump over the blood waves
While protected, Carmilla sends blood waves across the arena. They can move forward and backward, so do not treat a wave that has passed you as permanently finished.
Jump over the crest of the wave, where the color appears pinker than the darker red body. Land with enough space to respond if it returns. Your next attack should fit around that movement rather than keep Rose grounded through the wave's approach.
Do not spend the whole fight watching the skulls. Shield damage creates the opening, but the curse makes avoiding the wave the higher priority when both demand attention at once.

Move between the later blood pillars
Around the middle of her health bar, Carmilla begins forming blood pillars in patterns across the floor. Their positions are signaled before they erupt. Move into an unmarked gap and wait for the dangerous section to finish instead of jumping blindly into another pillar.
Near the end, she combines large rows of pillars with pairs of blood waves. The sequence can confine Rose near the center while the waves approach. Once your available ground is restricted, concentrate on jumping the waves and only add damage when the landing remains safe.
| Threat | Your first decision |
|---|---|
| Rotating skull shields | Damage the protection before focusing the boss |
| Blood wave | Jump its crest and allow for its return |
| Marked pillar positions | Move to a gap before the pillars rise |
| Pillars combined with waves | Secure your landing area, then time the jump |
| Curse counter nearly empty | Stop accepting risky trades for extra attacks |
Keep the end of the fight controlled
A nearly empty boss health bar does not disable Carmilla's curse. Continue reading the pillars and waves rather than abandoning the mechanic for a final string of attacks. A short opening is valuable because it lets you finish your strike before another blood pattern demands movement.
If you fail late, identify whether the cause was ordinary damage, a missed shield opening, or the blood counter reaching zero. Those are different problems. More healing only addresses one of them.
Carmilla's dialogue and later story role contain additional spoilers, but they are not needed to solve this encounter. The actionable sequence is to preserve the counter, break both shields, and attack through the openings left by her blood patterns.
The later movement reward is covered in How to Get Aerial Rush; Arcana Combinations Guide discusses choosing spells around an arena.
