Isaac: Bridge and Clock Tower Boss Guide

Quick Answer

Beat the bridge illusion to continue. For the real Clock Tower fight, equip Soul Harvest to pass the clock, survive Isaac's rewinds and claim The Zealot plus Chauve-Souris.

Isaac has two separate battles. The stone-bridge encounter before Dracula's castle is an illusion and advances the route without dropping his rewards. The genuine fight is in the Clock Tower's Heart of the Clock; reach it with Soul Harvest from Death, use the arena's lower floor to escape beams, and collect The Zealot, Chronomantic Dive and Chauve-Souris after winning.

This guide uses the encounter descriptions and recorded examples in All Things How's two-fight Isaac guide. Its bridge examples link to Jay Dunna's recorded fight; the later encounter is illustrated with TrophyGuide's recording. Progression and encounter spoilers follow.

The first fight follows the early story defeat to Death. The Clock Tower fight belongs to later progression, after Death in Notre-Dame. Do not confuse those two Death encounters when checking whether you can obtain Soul Harvest.

The castle entrance guide covers the approach to the earlier encounter. The combat advice here starts once you are facing Isaac.

Bridge Isaac: move behind the committed spear attack

Stay clear of the front of his spear when he winds up. Once an attack carries him past Rose, turn and answer from behind with a short combo, then prepare for his next move. Whip range and brief openings matter more than trying to finish a long sequence every time he pauses.

Holy Cross is a ranged option for moments when you are already outside melee range. Do not plan this early fight around Double Jump or Aerial Rush: this encounter precedes their later unlock route.

Spinning spear moving between green ringsEvade each pass according to its height, then wait for the spear to return before moving in.

The spinning spear pauses at three positions before returning. You can counter it by hitting it at those stops, but dodging the sequence is another option if your timing is inconsistent. Keep watching until Isaac has the weapon again; its first pause is not the end of the attack.

When the illusion's health bar is emptied, Isaac rises and disappears. There is no Arcana or weapon pickup from this bridge victory. Continue your route instead of searching the empty arena for Chauve-Souris.

Reach the genuine fight with Soul Harvest

The clock on the Clock Tower Bridge is the gate to the later Isaac route. Equip Soul Harvest, then use the glowing clock. The Zealot clue in Mechanic's Ascent points toward a trap that only Death can pass.

Soul Harvest comes from defeating Death in Notre-Dame. If it is missing, follow the later Death boss guide. Access to Notre-Dame itself uses The Artist and Brauner's Paintbrush, covered by the cathedral entrance guide.

After the clock transports you, the route passes through Clock Keeper's Atrium, Bridge of Haste and Eastern Summit. Continue through The Gauntlet to Steps of Time, climb the long staircase and approach the raised walkway opposite the enormous clock face. Entering that walkway starts the encounter scene, so settle your equipment before advancing onto it.

Heart of the Clock: use both floors and expect rewinds

The later arena has an upper iron bridge and an open floor beneath it. Treat the lower level as part of the fight: dropping down can remove Rose from attacks crossing the upper walkway, after which you can return upward.

Isaac restores his health by reversing time four times, producing five health-bar phases. Emptying the first bar therefore does not finish the encounter. His sequences become more demanding as the fight continues, with more frequent clones, clock sigils and dial attacks. Preserve enough mana for the later reversals instead of spending everything on the first bar.

Read the clock-sigil beams in order

A stationary dark ring with Roman numerals signals the beam sequence. A green beam first drops vertically through the ring, then another sweeps horizontally across the bridge.

  1. Move away from the first beam's vertical line.
  2. When the horizontal sweep crosses the upper walkway, drop to the floor below.
  3. If you are close to a wall, jump the beam instead of relying on a drop that has no clear space.
  4. Return upward after the sweep passes and take the next opening.

Do not watch Isaac alone during this attack. The ring shows where the vertical danger begins, while the second beam changes which floor is useful.

Stop attacking during his defensive stance

If Isaac adopts his parry stance, disengage. Striking him there triggers a heavy counter; sliding is not a reliable answer after you have activated it. Likewise, back away when his clock shield is active rather than trying to force a combo through it.

For the other attacks, use their shape to choose your next movement:

  • Spear dash: cross through or jump over its line and attack his back afterward.
  • Thrown spear volleys: small spears can be parried; dodge the larger late-fight throws rather than treating them like the smaller volley.
  • Tethered spear: jump the thin trailing line and punish the retrieval.
  • Clones: move through the attack and keep your damage focused on the real Isaac.
  • Needle fan: use the gaps or move to the lower floor instead of running through the fan.
  • Large dial and dark tendrils: remain outside the dial, jump the vines and attack the sphere when the sequence permits.
  • Close grab: make space; do not assume sliding through it will protect you.

The clearest damage opportunities follow a completed beam sequence or a committed spear charge. Use those windows deliberately; an extra hit during a shield or parry can cost more than waiting for the next attack.

Collect both the Arcana and the spear

When the genuine Isaac is defeated, strike the golden orb where he knelt to absorb The Zealot and unlock Chronomantic Dive. Its card offers an equip option, but you can continue without assigning the spell immediately.

After his final dialogue and disappearance, Chauve-Souris remains planted in the ground. Walk beside the spear and use the interaction prompt to collect it; claiming the Arcana is not the same action as taking the weapon.

The map then identifies Heart of the Clock, with Master's Quarters Approach to its right. Check that you collected the spear before moving on. If you have only beaten the stone-bridge illusion, these later pickups are still ahead of you.
